Which SCM approved lock do I need for my Trailer?

First, it is important to check which coupling you have. The type of coupling is always indicated on the coupling of the trailer itself. You can see this on the image below, also for Winterhoff/Albe couplings the type is on one of these places. Found the type plate? If you know which coupling you have then you also know which SCM approved lock fits the Trailer.

      SCM quality mark of Hitchlock

With our expertise as a trailer dealer, we have made a selection of the best approved SCM locks for trailers and caravans. This selection excels in durability and pricing. These approved trailer drawbar locks are characterised by high usability and burglary resistance that meets insurers' requirements for theft cover. The SCM quality mark was established by the Association of Insurers. This quality mark is important for insurers because it shows that a vehicle is equipped with a Lock that meets their requirements. Insurers know that when SCM approved locks are used, the risk of a vehicle being stolen is significantly lower than with unapproved locks.

The seal of approval means that in the event of an attempted theft, there must be minimal delay in breaking the lock open. This has both a preventive effect and a higher chance of being caught because the theft takes longer.

Locks must comply with a large number of rules before they can carry this quality mark. These tests cost a lot of money and also mean additional development costs. This is also why SCM Locks are more expensive than standard unapproved locks.

Easily order an SCM approved lock online and receive it tomorrow! Just as easy.

SCM approved locks for trailers and caravans

A Hitchlock with an SCM approval mark has been thoroughly tested on various aspects. Do you want to insure your trailer as a hull? Then chances are your insurer will require you to use an SCM approved lock. Aanhangwagendirect has a large number of SCM locks directly available from stock. There is a suitable lock for every coupling. Would you prefer a wheel clamp or chain lock? This is of course also possible. As long as it has an SCM approval mark.

      SCM approved locks from DoubleLock

We have been a preferred dealer of Double lock SCM Locks for several years. This brand is characterised by innovation and functionality in the field of SCM approved locks. You can choose to mount a separate lock or a fixed lock.

A fixed lock lock means that you mount one part to the coupling and use a loose (approved) padlock to lock it. This then ensures that you cannot connect or disconnect the Trailer unwanted. So you can use the lock both uncoupled and coupled.

      SCM approved locks from Al-KO

Many caravans have an Al-ko safety coupling head. Specific locks have been made for this that fit exactly over this coupling. For example, there is the Lock specifically for the AKS2004/AKS3004 coupling. This has been the most widely used coupling for caravans for many years. When choosing the Lock, you should therefore look closely at the type of coupling on the drawbar. This is different from the type of caravan or Trailer. Every Al-ko coupling has a type marking that indicates which version it is. We have the specific Safety plus SCM-approved Lock for that. All available directly from stock.

Am I allowed to drive with a mounted SCM Hitchlock?

It is permitted to drive with a mounted Hitchlock provided it is not locked. This is for safety reasons; emergency services must be able to uncouple vehicles at all times. In the event of an accident, the emergency services must be able to provide immediate assistance and no (SCM approved lock) may obstruct this.

Loose Double lock SCM approved locks

Our most popular SCM approved locks are the DoubleLock Condor for KNOTT ALBE and Winterhoff couplings and the DoubleLock Compact Eagle for AL-KO couplings. These Locks are easy to fit and detach. We also sell loose padlocks that you can reuse for the fixed lock locks that have already been fitted.

Maintenance of your SCM drawbar lock

It is important to regularly keep these kinds of sensitive locks supple with WD40 (easily ordered below). This will keep the Lock working smoothly and make it last considerably longer. It also keeps all fine rotating parts lubricated and drives off moisture and dirt.
