      Delta couplings from Alko

The minimum towing capacity of the Alko overrun brake is 750 kg and the maximum load capacity is 3500 kg. All Trailers that are heavier must have an overrun brake. The Alko overrun brake is much more comprehensive and specific than KNOTT's range. When replacing them, always pay close attention to the type plate, which contains all the necessary information. Because we buy from AL-KO on a large scale, we can deliver directly from stock at competitive prices. AL-KO parts are widely used in trailer assembly and are one of the most reliable brands.

Which AL-KO overrun brake do I need for my trailer?

Customers often don't know which overrun brake they need when they go to replace it. Actually, you can find this out quite easily. If all goes well, your trailer's overrun brake has a nameplate or punched data, as shown in the image to the right. The brand is at the top left of the nameplate, in this case an Alko overrun brake. Below that is the type number which is 90S/3 on the right. Sometimes types have several versions, like the overrun brake shown here. This is a version (ausf.) A1. The towing capacity of this overrun brake is 1000 kg, which can be found at the bottom of the type plate. Please note that this is the total towing capacity (including load).

The rating plate of the Alko overrun brake has all the information you need!

How does an Alko overrun brake work?

It is useful to know exactly how an Alko overrun brake works. An Alko overrun brake causes it to brake when the towing vehicle descends or decelerates. The Alko overrun brake will brake when there is a negative pressure on the drawbar. This is because when the towing vehicle brakes or descends, the brake rod is tightened, which in turn presses the brake shoes against the brake drum. This is therefore completely mechanical, so an overrun brake has no electronic couplings. The trailer eventually brakes because the Overrun brake damper slides together and this pulls the brake cables. Keep checking your brake fittings regularly to ensure you are always safe on the road.

AL-KO overrun brake replacement instruction video

Sometimes it is possible to repair an Alko overrun brake. This can be done, for example, if only the coupling or the damper is broken. When a damper is broken, you can press it with your hands. This is not possible with a good damper. An Alko overrun brake damper is also easy to replace yourself, as you can see in this video. Is the Alko overrun brake warped? Then we always recommend buying a new overrun brake. More information on repairing the overrun brake and other parts can be found here. In this video you can see how to mount an overrun brake. Bear in mind that not all overrun brakes have the same connection dimensions (which is why it is important to replace the Alko overrun brake for the same one). It sometimes happens that something is still unclear. Perhaps the type plate is not easy to read. If something is unclear, you can always contact us for personal advice.
